Objective: Antitumor active mushrooms were selected, and the active principle of mushrooms investigated.
Method: From an edible mushrooms, Flammuline velutipes (Enokitake), a protein-bound polysaccharide EA6 was isolated and its antitumor activity against synergenetic tumor was determined. Combination study of EA6 and Surgery was made by solid Meth A fibrosarcoma.
Results: From antitumor screening test by p.o. edible mushrooms, Enokitake and Bunasihmeji (Hyosizigus marmoreus) were selected. EA6 was highly effective against highly effective against Lewis lung carcinoma (ILS, 26%, 50mg/kg) by p.o.. Solid Meth A was surgical dissected out 7 days after implantation into the abdomen of BALB/c mice, and EA6 was p.o. administered 10mg/kg, at [1] pre-surgery (SE), [2] post SE, [3] pre & post SE. Second challenge of Meth A was made 7 days after the surgery. Then [2] and [3] gave good and EA6 was effective for the tumor reoccurrence after surgery. Extracts of edible mushrooms (EEM) made from F. Velutipes and H. Marmoreus were also effective for sarcoma 180 by p.o.
Conclusion: Edible mushrooms have high antitumor activity. EEM showed a clinical effectiveness. We remember a word of the Traditional Medicine that is "Ishoku Dougen"iใHฏนjmeaning medicine and food have the same origin. |
